Stormbound Sunset

This basket of Muhly Grass is set on a stone called Bloodstone.  The deep greens are contrasted with the deep burnt orange with a touch of gold.  I have several of these stones and am amazed at the variations of color in each of them.  I had a difficult time naming this one, but settled on a vision of a storm coming over water at sunset.  There is a clear section in the base that allows light to pass through, very unusual for a solid colored stone.  The large pendants on the sides are also unusual.  They are called Dragon's Blood Jasper.  The stones are various shades of green with a lightning bolt of deep red.  The Jade beads add some interest to the bottom. You can view this basket and two other this month of February at the Cape Coral Art Studio, 4533 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, Florida. The "Simply the Best" show sponsored by the Southwest Florida Fine Craft Guild contains many fine pieces of art from glass, wood, fiber, and stone.

Jewels for a Fairy

The base of this basket is called Zyosite.  What can't really be seen are the crystals of red Ruby and blue Sapphire embedded in the very deep green stone. Hence, the name, Jewels for a Fairy.  The Muhly Grass sewn with waxed linen thread contains diamond shaped faceted pendants of Tourmaline in shades of purples and greens and small beads of Jade.  A smaller size basket but a stunning one.

Approximate Size:  10 x 8 x 3.5 in.

Price:  $ 300

Many Shades of Grey

Who would think that black and grey could make a statement?  I bought this base of Snowflake Obsidian feeling that I may have it awhile before I designed a basket using it.  Then I entered a show where I needed a basket that reminds me of a book.  I have not read the book, but I liked the name!  The base is accented with small cubes of Snowflake Obsidian.  The Pendants on the sides are grey Labradorite surrounded with Muhly Grass sewn with grey, natural, and black waxed linen thread.  All in many shades of grey!

Approximate Size:  10 x 9 x 4 in

Price: $300

Lavender Ice

I am so happy that the base of Purple Feldspar can be seen in this photo.  It is hard to capture the deep purple color, but my new camera is doing a great job.  The pendants  on the sides are small chunks of agate.  Never seen these before and there was only one strand!  The Muhly Grass is accented with plum and lavender waxed linen thread.  Smaller in size, but distinctive.

Approximate Size:  9.5 x 8 x 3.5 in
 Price: $ 245
