Labrador Lights

This basket was created from the muhly grass I grow in my flower beds.  It's so nice to know I have an unlimited supply of weaving material!  This is a basket that just didn't want to be finished.  The raw Labdorite base has wonderful rainbow colors on both sides; it was difficult to decide which to show.  Luckily I had purchased the small beads and large faceted pendants when I found the base.  As you can see I added some small ones in the bottom to help round out the base.  It wasn't until I had finished placing the large pendants three weeks later that I discovered that I had lost the remainder of the small beads.  No problem, I thought, and raced to my local bead store.  It was then I found that Labdorite comes in different shades from green cast to gray.  The store had green, I needed gray.  A frantic email to my supplier of wonderful "rocks" in South Carolina, a long two days wait for Susan to find another strand, and yes! one more strand of faceted Labdorite beads were located in the garage.  I actually used more small beads in the end and am satisfied with the result.
